Ian has been a district councillor in Essex for over a decade, the portfolio holder for strategic planning for much of that time. He has studied planning at London University and is a member of both the RTPI and TCPA.

He has been a banker and runs photography businesses specialising in forensic, architectural and commercial photography. He has also been a musician, playing drums for the likes of Joe Brown, George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Albert Lee, and even turned down a job to tour Japan with Shakin Stevens for three months!
