The number of planning applications in England has fallen by 12 per cent, when compared with the same period in 2021. A total of 87,800 applications were granted between April and June 2022.
Figures from DLUHC show that 8,700 residential and 1,800 commercial applications were granted, with falls of nine and five per cent respectively. During the same period, councils received 106,800 applications, which is 17 per cent fewer than 2021.
District councils decided 86 per cent of major applications within 13 weeks or the agreed time, a one per cent drop on the same period in 2021. By contrast, district councils granted 362,000 decisions in the year up to June 2022, a rise of 3 per cent from the year ending June 2021.
